Country weakened by falling GDP, rising unemployment

The economic picture in Greece remains grim as GDP growth slumps, debt remains unsustainably high and unemployment levels continue to rise. Athens attempts to continue its austerity course, reining in social programs and raising taxes, as protesters fill the streets. Political watchers meanwhile caution that if Greece refuses the terms of a bailout plan and drops the euro, financial chaos could follow.
