Municipalities face new waste-water regulations

Sewage infrastructure upgrades to cost millions

Last Updated: November 18, 2011

Federal regulations, expected to be finalized by the end of the year, will force many municipalities across Canada to upgrade their waste-water systems. See the charts below for a breakdown by province, and how much it is all estimated to cost.

Facilities in the high-risk category under the legislation will require upgrades in eight years, by 2020. Medium-risk facilities will have a deadline of 2030 and the lowest-risk systems until 2040.
