Awards love no guarantee of box-office gold

Healthy box office returns, along with a substantial number of Oscar nominations for films such as The Help and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, helped bridge the gap between critical and mass appeal in 2011. The divide however is notable with high earners such as Bridesmaids receiving scant critical love.
