Hospital emergency rooms are often bursting but many Canadians may not realize there's an alternative.

Urgent care centres can be found across the country. Unlike an emergency room, they don't deal with life-threatening injuries or illnesses. But unlike a walk-in clinic, they are equipped to treat broken bones in need of casts, along with stiches and minor burns.

Outside of Alberta, there seems to be less awareness of urgent care centres.

CBC's Christine Birak visited a busy hospital emergency and a nearby urgent care centre in Brampton, Ont., to explore the differences.
