More women are expected to seek butt lifts in the new year, according to the American Society of Asthetic Plastic Surgery.
Singer Beyonce Knowles has made having a shapely rear end a must-have accessory, according to the American Society for Esthetic Plastic Surgery. (Darla Khazei/Associated Press)The cosmetic surgery group said in a report that celebrities such as Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez have made a shapely rear end a "must-have accessory." So the group is predicting more patients seeking buttock lifts, as well as surgical and non-surgical buttock augmentation.
The group is also expecting a rush to replace aging breast implants in baby boomer women.
Overall, the doctors said they expect a more diverse group of people will be seeking cosmetic surgery in 2011. Among the more popular procedures are non-surgical facial rejuvenation, and injectable cosmetic enhancement products such as Botox.
However, that trend has a serious downside, according to the report. The doctors predict an increase in horror stories about discount injectables purchased offshore, and procedures performed by untrained or poorly trained practitioners.
Among other trends the plastic surgeons predict for 2011 is more body contouring after dramatic weight loss. The doctors say the public is finally waking up to the dangers and health consequences of obesity and the result will be a rush to lose a lot of weight.
Many will be losing that weight through liposuction, which the group calls the gold standard for fat reduction. It says other alternatives will also gain popularity such freezing, zapping or lasering away fat. The report does not mention other methods of getting rid of fat, such as diet and exercise.
