The beef products were wrapped at the store so they may not have a packing date, lot code or best before date. CFIA is urging consumers to check their freezers for potentially contaminated meat.

The recall comes amid an outbreak of E. coli in Ontario, which is being investigated by the ministries of health and agriculture.

Food contaminated with E. coli may not look or smell spoiled but consumption of it could lead to potentially life-threatening illnesses.

Symptoms include severe abdominal pain and bloody diarrhea. Some people may have seizures or strokes, or may need blood transfusions or kidney dialysis.

E. coli can lead to permanent kidney damage.
