Canada's food watchdog and Abbot Nutrition on Thursday expanded an earlier recall, telling consumers across the country to check cans of Similac Advance Step 2 powdered infant formula for false stickers covering the original lot numbers and expiration dates.
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency first issued an advisory on May 3, warning people living in Montreal about the affected 900-gram cans.
The CFIA now says an unauthorized distributor supplied the cans to a liquidation outlet in Ontario. Other liquidation centres and retail outlets across the country may have also sold the product.
Abbott says it prints expiry date and lot number information directly onto the cans and does not use stickers on its products.
No associated illnesses have been reported.
If consumers find false stickers on the bottoms of the cans, they should call the company for return information at 1-800-699-9948.
