Grandmothers gather in Uganda. (Jennifer Dunn/Stephen Lewis Foundation)
From May 6 to 8, 43 Canadian grandmothers will join close to 500 African grandmothers in Manzini, Swaziland, to draw attention to the transformative role grandmothers play in the AIDS pandemic affecting Africa. Organized by the Stephen Lewis Foundation, this first-time event will allow Canadian grandmothers to hear first-hand the needs and aspirations of their African counterparts. Upon their return home, the Canadians will take those messages from coast to coast, and use them to raise awareness and funds in support of their African peers.
Two of those grandmothers will be sharing their experiences right here.
Check back to hear from Heather Reid and Lisbie Rae as they write about the impact of their journey.
