Storm warnings in Southeast Asia
- October 1, 2009 10:40 AM |

Asia had little respite Thursday from an already brutal storm season, with warnings the next tempest was en route to the Philippines and the death toll from the previous typhoon reaching 383.
Officials were preparing compulsory evacuation plans for tens of thousands of people in the Philippines as they watched Typhoon Parma track toward the country with winds gusting up to 210 km/h.

While I am always saddened and a little shocked by the terror, grief and loss associated with these horrendous natural disasters, this earthquake and tsunami in the Samoas and Tonga is especially terrifying.
My eighteen-year old nephew is holidaying there with a couple of buddies during his school break. As far as I can tell from the news articles I've read since yesterday, the area in which we believe him to be has not been hit as hard as some of the more northern islands of Tonga.
Our concerns for him stem all the way from his personal safety to his ability to get off the island! This particular natural disaster is hitting very close to home!
