Tonight’s episode of Your Turn was about polls, platforms and change. The economy has been a huge catalyst in the elections both north and south of the border. We asked members of the Conservatives, Liberals and the NDP to join Suhana in studio to discuss their parties’ stance on the pending crisis and let viewers ask them the questions on their minds.

The Conservatives’ Rahim Jaffer took part in the conversation from Edmonton and highlighted the steady hand and prudent, responsible financial management that kept inflation low. Scott Brison beamed in from Halifax and said the Liberals’ strong economic leadership was a true platform, not a pamphlet for a campaign. And, the NDP’s Peter Julian promised an economic update in the first 100 days of Prime Minister Jack Layton’s term.

Aline from Ottawa Skyped in asking about tax breaks for small families and interest on savings accounts, and Steve from Edmonton came in by webcam asking what would be done about student loans, and helping young people out. Veronica phoned us from Wyoming, Ont., asking the party representatives about seniors’ supplements, and Rick gave us a call about carbon tax.

Also joining us was Paul McConnon, a Canadian living in the United States who said the economy has broken through as the number one issue in the American election, and Wall Street had crossed Main Street like a highway.

Here are a couple emails we couldn’t get on the air:

In hard economic decision times, I will opt for an intelligent solution rather than an ideological position; therefore, Stéphane Dion will get my vote.

Canadians... look to the past and the track record for the Liberals... the ad scam, the conspiracy, the thievery... Do we as Canadians want more of that?? Harper has an honest, straight forward approach... NOT a bunch of fluff or “puffery”... He hasn’t been rude or sarcastic like the others...

If our country opts to go with one of the opposition, we will see even more jobs lost, especially in mining, forestry, and manufacturing. Our GST is dropping and so are our taxes, we would be foolish to elect one of the others. We will be the next country in a deep recession if we do not keep Mr. Harper.

Tomorrow, tune in for the CBC's Mark Kelley hosting the X-Challenge, with a focus on the economy. We’ll be back on Thursday and look forward to hearing from you then.
