From 1995 to 1996, was director of Canadians Against Forced Unionism, a project of the National Citizens' Coalition in Calgary, and in 1997 was director of International Commodities Trading, an Alberta-based commodity trading company. Spokesperson for the Calgary Chamber of Commerce Speaker's Bureau, and is supportive of a number of groups, including the Royal Alberta United Services Institute, the Fraser Institute, the Alberta Taxpayers' Association, the Progressive Group for Independent Business, the Canadian Property Rights Research Institute, the National Firearms Association, Responsible Firearms Owners of Alberta, National Right to Work Committee, Focus on the Family and the Canada Family Action Coalition.
Community Activities: President of the Canada-Germany InterParliamentary Group, which works for a greater friendship and goodwill between parliamentarians of Canada and Germany and thereby serve to further co-operative relations and mutual understanding between national parliaments of both countries and between both countries.

Community Activities: Elected the Social Sciences Faculty Representative on the University of Calgary Students Union. Active in numerous clubs on campus, holding executive positions in the Speech and Debate Society and the Political Science Students Association. Volunteer with many groups, including the Hull Child and Family Services, Calgary's Arts and the Environment, Forever Green, the Kensington BRZ, and the Calgary United Nations Society. Recipient of an award for Outstanding Volunteer Service for his work to expand and beautify urban green spaces. Represented Calgary at the Global Young Leaders Conference in Washington and New York in 2003.
