From 1989 to 1997, was business manager of Local 343 of the United Carpenters and Joiners. Was vice-president of the Manitoba Federation of Labour and an executive member of the Manitoba Building Trades Council. Developed and promoted energy conservation retrofit program A Brighter Future - Job Creation through Energy Conservation, which was designed to renovate public buildings, reduce operating costs and create jobs at no cost to the taxpayer.

Community Activities: Past president of the Ruby Street Housing Co-op, which he helped form. Member of the Aboriginal Apprenticeship Training Initiative and the Assembly of First Nations' national steering committee, secretary-treasurer of the National Apprenticeship and Training advisory committee and the national industrial adjustment committee for Carpentry Craft. Member of the Lieutenant-Governor's Foundation for Youth.
