This rural eastern Ontario riding takes in Prince Edward County and the County of Hastings, excluding the city of Quinte West (Trenton).

The riding extends north from Lake Ontario and includes Belleville, Bancroft, Deseronto and Madoc, as well as the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory.

Major industries are retail trade, manufacturing and health and social services, with some agriculture. According to the 2006 census, the average family income is $68,736 and unemployment is 6.3 per cent.

The riding was established in 1966. In the 2004 redistribution, a portion of the riding of Hastings-Frontenac-Lennox and Addington was added in the north.

Population: 113,227 (2006 census; an increase of 3.5% since 2001)

Political History

Tory Daryl Kramp is serving his second term in the riding after defeating Liberal Bob Vaughan in the 2006 election by 9,753 votes.

In 2004, Kramp beat Liberal Bruce Knutson by 2,556 votes.

Liberal Lyle Vanclief was the MP from 1988 until 2004. He was minister of agriculture from 1997 until December 2003.

Prince Edward-Hastings riding elected Conservatives to the House from 1968 to 1984. From 1988 to 2000, the riding voted Liberal.
