Education: Graduated from the University of Toronto and Lakeshore Teacher's College

Career Background: Taught primary school in Mississauga for six years. Full-time CRTC commissioner, 1987 to 1993. Held various management and production positions with broadcasting companies including Rogers Broadcasting Inc., OMNI 1, Global Television Network, Multilingual Television (Toronto) Ltd., CFMT-TV and Rogers Cable Television, Toronto. Retired from a career in broadcasting as the senior vice-president of industry affairs for CTV Inc., 1991. Was a member of the Ontario Film Review Board and the national advisory committee to the president of the Treasury Board on employment equity in the federal public service and crown corporations. Served as adviser to three different secretaries of state.

Community Activities: Served as chair of the board of Lakeridge Health; board member of the Durham Community Foundation and Abilities Centre Durham; on Orono community improvement task force; founding member of the Great Canadian Town Band Festival in Orono.

Federal: Elected in Clarington-Scugog-Uxbridge in 2004. Elected in Durham in 2006.

Political History

Cabinet: Named Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women in 2006. Moved to the international co-operation portfolio in a cabinet shuffle on Aug. 14, 2007.

Committee: Former member of Canadian Heritage committee.

Caucus: Former critic for Canadian Heritage.

Has also covered farming and agricultural issues for Durham publications. Previously worked in corporate marketing.

Community Activities: Member of the Optimist Club and the Durham Environmental Network, co-founded the Concerned Citizens of Brooklin and has coached basketball for several years.

Andrew McKeever
