Community Activities: He was a founding member of a coalition against the proposed expansion of the St. Lawrence Seaway and a coalition set up to persuade the federal government to ratify the Kyoto Accord on climate change. He was also involved in the Third Conference of Parties (COP3) on climate change in 1997, the Fifth Conference of the Parties (COP5) in 1999, the Seventh Conference of Parties (COP7) in 2001, the Eighth Conference of Parties (COP8) in 2002 and the 12th Conference of the Parties (COP12) in 2007.

Committee: Currently serves as vice-chair of the standing committee on environment and sustainable development, and associate member of the standing committees on liaison, natural resources and national defence. He is a former member of the standing committees on Canadian heritage, health, human resources, development and the status of persons with disabilities, transport and citizenship and immigration, and the special committee on non-medical use of drugs.
