Located on New Brunswick's western border, this riding includes the communities of Grand Falls, Perth-Andover, Hartland, Woodstock, Saint-André and Drummond, as well as the Tobique, Kingsclear and Woodstock First Nation reserves.

According to the 2006 census, about one-sixth of the riding's residents are francophones and three per cent are immigrants. Manufacturing is the biggest employer. The average family income is $58,470 and unemployment is 9.5 per cent.

Tobique-Mactaquac was created in 1996 by combining portions of Madawaska-Victoria, Carleton-Charlotte, Fredericton-York Sunbury and Miramichi. About 6,000 residents have been added from New Brunswick Southwest.

Population: 68,352 (2006 census; a decrease of 2.5% since 2001)

Political History

Liberal incumbent Andy Savoy lost a photo finish in 2006, giving up his seat to Conservative Mike Allen by just 254 votes.

In 2004, Savoy held on to the office he gained in 2000 when he unseated incumbent Tory Gilles Bernier by just 147 votes. Bernier, in turn, had knocked off Liberal MP Pierrette Ringuette-Maltais in 1993.
