Career Background: Worked with Canadian Airlines for 18 years, as the chief emergency warden, the health and safety representative and a customer service leader. Was a volunteer member of the Canadian Airlines Charitable Program and the Small Business Entrepreneurial Program. From 1994-1995, he was district chairperson for CAW Local 1900.
Community Activities: Before becoming an MP, Peter was an avid fundraiser for the Halifax Metro Food Bank, Adsum House, the Canadian Breast Cancer Society and community radio. He helped co-ordinate the Atlantic Earth Festival and introduced the recycling program for Canadian Airlines at the Halifax International Airport, hence the nickname Compost Pete. He was a guest of Prince Philip at a dinner to recognize his fundraising work for the World Wildlife Fund of Canada. He is also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, an active blood donor and coaches soccer.
