Community Activities: Has served on: Save Our Hospital Committee, Fisheries Action Committee, Sacred Heart Parish Council, Cape Shore Seniors Housing Association Inc., Recreation Committee, Tourism Association, Harbour Authority and Regional Economic Development Board. Has served as an executive member of Avalon West Community Futures Committee and the Southern Avalon Tourism Industry. Even as MHA, he still volunteers with his hometown fire department, municipal council and Seniors Housing Association.

Municipal: Member of St Bride's council for three terms.

Provincial: Elected in St. Mary's-The Capes in 1993, defeated in Placentia and St. Mary's in 1996; elected in 1999 and 2003.

Federal: Elected in Avalon riding in 2006.

Committee: Appointed to the Library of Parliament and the Fisheries and Oceans committees on April 26, 2006, and to the committee examining the bill for the protection of the Canadian environment on Dec. 12, 2006.
