The Windsor Police Service has identified a man found dead in the Detroit River last week.

Mickael Niyongabo, 21, was found floating in the Detroit River near Russell Street on June 20.

Niyongabo was from Burundi and had been in Windsor for approximately two years, studying at the University of Windsor.

Police say he lived in the university area.

Investigators are asking for the public’s help in trying to determined how and where the man died.

Police are looking for any information that would help in tracking Niyongabo's movements and activities prior to his death.

Niyongabo is described as a black male of African descent, 5-foot-11 and 140 pounds.

At the time of his death he was wearing a green shirt with black lettering spelling "PRIORITIES" on the front. He also had on blue jeans, black running shoes and a grey, hooded and zippered jacket.

Police believe he was seen in the area of Riverside Drive West, between Bridge Avenue and Rankin Avenue in the early morning hours of June 16.
