Windsor police pursue purse snatcher

Police are looking for a man who assaulted a woman and stole her purse in downtown Windsor on Sunday.

Windsor police are looking for a man who assaulted a woman downtown on Sunday.

The 64-year-old woman was walking in the alley between Parent Avenue and Langlois Street when a man rode up behind her on a mountain bike and grabbed her purse, police said. The purse strap got caught on her arm and she fell to the ground, suffering serious injuries.

Police said the man rode off with the woman's purse and was last seen riding through a vacant lot in the 500 block of Parent Avenue.

The man is described as:

  • White.
  • 20 to 25 years old.
  • Tall and thin.
  • Having dark hair and a "scruffy" appearance.

He was wearing a grey sweatshirt at the time of the incident and his bicycle is black and white, police said.

The woman went to Hôtel-Dieu Grace Hospital with several broken ribs, a collapsed left lung and a punctured right lung. She is expected to recover.
