A 14-year veteran officer with the Windsor police has been arrested and faces charges of theft.

The officer's name is not being made public..

He, or she, faces charges of theft under five-thousand dollars, possession of stolen property, and two counts of uttering a forged document.

Police say the arrest originated with "found property" turned over to Windsor police.

The officer has been suspended from duty with pay.

Windsor Police Sgt. Brendan Dodd told CBC News that when charges are formally laid in court, the officer's name will be released.

Dodd said Windsor Police Chief Al Frederick will make a statement at that time.

Dodd insisted officers are following the same process they would for any other person charged with the same crime.
