Windsor, Ont., CUPE leader wins second term
One of the union leaders at the centre of last year's bitter civic strike in Windsor, Ont., has been re-elected to a second term.
Jean Fox will serve another two years as president of CUPE local 543, which represents more than 1,000 inside workers with the city.
Fox, who saw the union through a 101-day strike in 2009, received two thirds of the votes cast on Wednesday.
"I'm quite pleased that the membership feels that I've done a good job and will continue to work hard and that I'm dedicated to working for them."
Fox said it's unusual for a president to be asked to continue after a strike.
Looking forward, she said there are many more battles to fight, including the closure of seven city-run daycares and the contracting out of provincial offences officers.
"Every day, there's a new issue," she said.
