Windsor man dies in dirt bike crash

A 22-year-old Windsor man is dead after losing control of a dirt bike.

A dirt bike crash claimed the life of a 22-year-old Windsor man. The accident happened Tuesday around 11 p.m. in a farmer's field on County Road 23 in Essex.

OPP identified the victim as Stephen Cardillo.

Police said Cardillo wasn't wearing a helmet, and the bike didn't have a headlight.

"We don't know what the cause of this crash was, but the fact that he was not wearing his helmet could not have helped," said OPP Const. Stephanie Moniz. "You just have to use your common sense and always wear a helmet."

Cardillo was pronounced dead in a Windsor hospital.

"Our accident investigators are investigating the scene," said Moniz. "They haven't come up with a total conclusion yet, but they are certainly investigating to find out exactly what happened."

A post mortem started Wednesday to determine how the victim died.
