The provincial jail in Windsor, Ont., was in lockdown mode Tuesday after guards were tipped off to the possibility of contraband in the facility.

The Windsor Jail in the Sandwich area of west Windsor was locked down on Sunday, and a search began.

The 130 inmates will be kept in their cells until the search has been completed.

Inmates who have scheduled court appearances will be allowed out of their cells to attend their hearings.

A spokesman for the provincial Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Facilities said the search was expected to be completed by late Tuesday.
