Windsor Express names 1st head coach
Former New Jersey Nets player Bill Jones appointed
Windsor's new professional basketball team has its first head coach.
The Windsor Express on Thursday named Bill Jones, who is a former New Jersey Nets player, to the position.
The team's CEO, Dartis Willis Sr., made the announcement at the local YMCA.
"Jones is a great guy. Jones has a great community foundation. Jones has great basketball experience and he has a great philosophy about winning, so it was a no brainer," said Willis.
Jones has coached other teams in the past. He said he's elated to be given the opportunity to coach again.
"I'm happy to be able to tell my wife, to be able to tell my brother and my family and friends, that I'm back in basketball with the opportunity to coach and that's what I'm here to do. That's what I'm born to do; to be a basketball coach," said Jones.
His first priority, he said, is to establish a coaching staff.
When it comes to players, former University of Windsor players may be on the team to draw in Windsor fans, he said.
It was also announced Thursday that the team has the No. 1 pick at the NBL Draft Combine, which takes place later this month in Orangeville, Ont.
