Tecumseh town council is facing a tough task as it prepares for budget meetings.

The first spending plan for 2013 includes a proposed tax increase of almost seven per cent.

Mayor Gary McNamara said homeowners should not be too concerned. He said once council completes its review, any increase will be much smaller.

"Now it's council's opportunity to dig in and to see is we can find other efficiencies," he said. "Some of the stressors [include the fact] we bought $15 million worth of land with Lakewood [Golf Course]. Now, we've got to maintain it."

Budget meetings in Tecumseh start next week.

McNamara is hoping council can wrap up the sessions by mid-December.
