Street fights sidewalk plans in LaSalle and loses

A group of LaSalle residents are upset with the town's sidewalk plans.
The residents lost their bid to convince town council to abandon plans for an asphalt path on the north side of Reaume Road.
Instead, the politicians are going ahead with plans for an asphalt path on the north side of Reaume Road and a concrete sidewalk on the south side.
Residents came armed with a petition signed by more than 130 people.
Marie Torti helped collect the signatures, to no avail.
"I'm not happy. What other street in LaSalle has 75 per cent of cement sidewalks, and another 25 per cent of a black asphalt that's not going to last?" she asked.
Council has awarded a tender to a local contractor to enclose a drain on Reaume Road and to build an asphalt pathway.
The total cost of the project is more than $1 million.
The work is to start in a few weeks and be complete sometime in the spring.
