A man was injured and charged after he allegedly drove around a railway crossing gate and was struck by a train.

It happened at 10:30 p.m. Sunday.

Police said a minivan tried to go around crossing gates on George Avenue, south of Wyandotte Street E.

The minivan was struck by a train hauling empty railcars.

The male driver had minor injuries and was treated and released from hospital.

He was charged with disobeying crossing gates.
