The Town of Tecumseh will loan $160,000 to a committee trying to raise money for a new skateboard park.

Deputy mayor Cheryl Hardcastle said the group has been having a problem raising funds.

"Just because it's been ongoing for so long that some of those potential donors are saying that they would like to see some tangible evidence of the project going forward before they donate to it, so we thought it would be expeditious for us to front the dollars for them," Hardcastle said.

She expects people and sponsors will donate based on council's assistance and once they see actual construction:

The skateboard park would be built on a site between the OPP station and the Tecumseh arena.

The town has already committed $120,000 to the project. Work is expected to be complete this summer.

The loan was made on the condition it all be repaid to the town.

"I know we made the right decision in fronting those dollars to them," Hardcastle said. "I'm anxious to see this skateboard park open. It will be nice to have our own. It's long-awaited."
