The boards of Windsor’s two hospitals have agreed on how to govern the proposed $1.6-billion mega-hospital.

Under the agreement, Windsor Regional Hospital and Hôtel-Dieu Grace will not merge into one single-site hospital.

Instead, Windsor Regional Hospital will be responsible for acute services, governance and management of the mega-hospital.

Hôtel-Dieu Grace, meanwhile, will operate non-inpatient care, such as ambulatory care, urgent care, diagnostics and day surgery.

Hôtel-Dieu would also operate all services and programs, such as chronic care, mental health and addictions, at Windsor Regional’s Tayfour campus.

The plan has already been sent to the Erie-St. Clair LHIN and the Ontario Ministry of Health for approval.
