Windsor Fire and Rescue Services will get four new trucks.

Council agreed on Monday to spend more than a combined $4 million on two 95-foot aerial ladders and two 70-foot aerials.

The city also bought two fire engines in 2011 and four aerials last year.

"We want to have up-to-date, modern equipment in a city of our size, with buildings such as the casino, high-rise apartment buildings expansion in the southern end of the city and in the east end of the city," said Helga Reidel, the city's chief administrative officer. "It was definitely time to replace those vehicles."

Reidel said the old trucks were due to be replaced because they have reached the end of their life expectancy.

"The fire trucks in question were in excess of 10 years old. They were probably in excess of 12 years old, if I remember correctly," Reidel said.

Fort Garry Fire Trucks of Winnipeg was the only company to submit a bid for the contract. The new trucks will arrive next year.
