The City of Windsor is investigating after video that appears to show a snowplow driver turning left on a red light surfaced this week.

The video, taken with a iPhone from inside a following car, shows a snowplow turning left a red light on Huron Church Road on Sunday night.

Pete Matheson, the city's maintenance manager, said he was able to identify the driver. Disciplinary measures will be taken, he said.

"We have GPS on all the vehicles and we'll certainly review it one more time and we'll review it with the employee and see what he has to say about it," Matheson said.

Matheson said that in 33 years with the city, this is the first time he's heard of a complaint about a snowplow operator driving dangerously.

"A lot of complaints we have are just the opposite," Matheson said. "We have the public following too close or trying to pass while they are doing their operation and that creates a hazardous situation for the motorist in the car."

City engineer Mario Sonego said any discipline won't be publicly known.

"There are different levels of discipline we have to do, so that's a private matter. I don't think it's proper to say what discipline we'll take," he said. "We're going to review the situation and see where we're at and we'll go from there."

This is the second time in little more than a month that a city employee has been filmed doing something questionable at the wheel.

In mid-December, Transit Windsor investigated a video that allegedly showed one of its drivers using a tablet while driving a bus carrying passengers through the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel.

Transit Windsor officials would not reveal what disciplinary action was taken.
