Tecumseh's mayor is preparing for a visit from the federal agriculture minister later this week.

Gary McNamara is eager to meet with Gerry Ritz and make the case against deregulating food packaging sizes in Canada.

"It opens the door and the floodgates for the U.S. to basically make up the production that Canada is producing as we speak," McNamara said of deregulation. "Those multinationals, most of them are U.S.-based, realistically, are they going to spend millions of dollars to retool equipment here when all they have to do is just speed up their lines in the U.S.?"

Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz will be in Essex County on Thursday to talk to food producers and packers such as Heinz and Bonduelle.
