A Christmas party planned at Vincent Massey high school will go ahead as planned.

As CBC Windsor was first to report, a party planned to benefit underprivileged kids Dec. 15 was originally cancelled due to job action planned by high school teachers.

However, CBC News was first to learn Friday the party has been given the go-ahead by the Ontario Secondary Schools Teachers' Federation and teachers at Massey.

Student organizer Karen Wang said an emergency meeting was called at the school Friday to get the party back on track as scheduled.

Approximately 200 kids from across Windsor-Essex are poised to benefit from the party, which has been in the works for three months.

On Thursday CBC Windsor obtained a memo sent from the OSSTF to its teachers. It said, in part, that "members may participate in holiday-season charity activities in December for which commitment has already been made."

The memo went on to state these activities may include "...food drives and support of community programs to provide holiday gifts for children."

Referring to the memo, OSSTF Federation District 9 president Jeff Brosseau said the organization recognized "they don't want to put a stop to things that have already been started. At the same time we expect members not to go out of their way to start something that hasn't already been started."
