Windsor was invaded by superheroes and villains this weekend.

About 1,400 people attended the city's first Comic-Con in more than 20 years.

Some attendees showed up as their favourite comic book characters such as Batman, the Joker, Bane and Scarecrow.

Organizer Michael Michalski said he couldn't believe the turnout.

"Take a look around, it's not just me that knew that it would be so much fun," said Michalski. "I was cautiously optimistic coming in and this has just blown me away, it's exceed my expectations for sure."

Michalski says that shows Windsor is a hotbed of comic activity.

"We have our very own comic company here in town, Legacy Comics Publishing. Tony Gray is here with us today for the Incredible Conduit," said Michalski. "We have Johnny Desjardins the Vampirella artist, these are top echelon talent right here in Windsor. You could be walking by a comic book elite walking down the street and not realizing it."

Tony Gray said he got into the comic book business when travelling to conventions with his father.

“I hope this convention grows because it would keep me from having to travel to Chicago and Toronto," said Gray.

DC Comics Batman illustrator Jason Fabok was also at Comic-Con.

“You would have to go to a San Diego Comic-Con to see talent like this normally, but it’s right here in Windsor because he’s from Windsor," said Michalski.

Michalski said the convention will be back again next year.

“I think I would be crazy not to. Onward and upward from here,” said Michalski. “It was always my intention to test the waters and see where we stand, certainly come on in, the water is fine.”
