Wind turbine project not supported by Essex council

In a close decision Monday night, Essex town council rejected a new wind farm.
A company called Blue Sky wanted support as it applies for a contract with the Ontario Power Authority.
The company plans to build 27 wind turbines on farmland around County Road 8.
Town councillor Bill Baker supported the project, but was on the short end of a 4-3 vote.
He alleged councillors who voted against this project, slated for the north half of the Essex, voted in favour of a previous project in Harrow.
"It was hard for me to understand the foundation of their vote," Baker said.
It's unclear what the company's next step will be.
Blue Sky can still move ahead with the 27-turbine project on farmland near County Road 8, even without town council support, as long as it gets the Ontario Power Authority contract.
Baker hopes the project goes ahead.
"They are contributing to overall sustainability for clean energy within the province," Baker said. "It's proven its own in reports, but yet we're listening to the few minority who are bringing up the same old fundamental issues: not in my backyard."
