Police in Sarnia, Ont., say they found a stolen laptop charging in the house beside the one it was stolen from.

On Sept. 30, a Sarnia couple reported a break-and-enter in the 300 block of South Indian Road. Police said someone entered the house through a basement window and left through a sliding patio door.

The home was ransacked and several expensive items, including a MacBook Pro laptop, were taken.

The computer was equipped with the “Find My Mac” program, enabling its owners to locate their Apple computer through GPS.

The victims of the break-in turned on the program and were able to view the current location of their computer. They found their computer was right next door, charging and still accessing the owner’s own wireless router.

On Oct. 1, members of the Sarnia Police continued their investigation and obtained a search warrant for the next door residence.

Two people were arrested.

A 31-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man, both from Sarnia, face charges of break and enter, theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen property.

Other items allegedly stolen from the break-and-enter were also located in the accused home, including Wii video game controllers and games, a cellphone, digital camera, second laptop and a jewellery box with several items of expensive jewellery.
