With cooler October weather coming, health officials are reminding the public it's time to get a flu shot.
Dr. Allen Heimann is medical officer of health for Windsor-Essex and said only about 25 per cent of people typically get the shot.
Heimann suspects he knows why the number is so low.
"I think it's probably people don't like to get shots. People have difficulty taking time out of their busy schedules to go to their physician or to go to a clinic and get a shot," he said. "They think, 'Well, I haven't got the flu. I'm pretty healthy. I probably don't need it.' If you don't get into the regular habit of doing something, it's difficult to change."
There were 32 local cases of influenza last year, mostly in children and teens.
Heimann says everyone old than six months of age should get immunized.
The first public clinic of the season will be held Thursday afternoon at the health unit office. Another 22 more are planned around Windsor-Essex through the end of November.
