It's up in the air whether Essex County Council will give any cash towards Windsor's bid for an international swimming championship.

Councillors received a report Wednesday evening on Windsor's decision to try and host the 2016 or 2018 FINA short course races.

The bid could cost up to $200,000 and county Warden Tom Bain said council needs time to mull it over.

"We're going to look at the report, but unfortunately a number of county council members didn't have the opportunity to go through the report in any depth, so the possibility is there," said Bain. "I think we can work through our tourism bureau to help them financially there."

Councillor Cheryl Hardcastle said they don't have all the facts yet to decide whether to assist the city financially.

"I think it's better for us to understand if there's something specific that's needed from us. This is an undertaking of the city at this point and for us to just throw into a bid, I'm not really comfortable with that," said Hardcastle.

Windsor's bid has to be in by mid-October and the city estimates it will cost $10 million to host the FINA championship if the bid is accepted.
