University student council pays $210K for concert

University of Windsor students who are fans of techno will have to pay twice to see world renown D.J. Avicii.
The University of Windsor Student Alliance has used student fees to pay $130,000 to bring Avici and a host of others to Windsor’s Festival Plaza as part of the Coming Home Music Festival.
Benny Benassi and Richie Hawtin played the show last year. It was free to students and $5 for the public.
This year, however, students will have to pay $15 admission.
The entire show is tabbed at $210,000. That cost is not fixed.
The student alliance said the $210,000 will be repaid and spent elsewhere later in the year if the concert makes enough money. The alliance said it needs to sell 7,500 tickets in order to break even.
By noon Wednesday, it had not sold half that. Approximately 3,500 tickets, including general admission and VIP passes, which cost $40, were sold.
Last year’s event was said to draw 10,000 people.
