Aspiring NHL players in Amherstburg could soon be able to get a little inspiration from a hometown hockey hero every time they suit up to hit the ice.

Dean Collver, director of recreation for the Town of Amherstburg, is proposing to name the main dressing room corridor in the town's sports complex after Stanley Cup winner Kevin Westgarth.

Westgarth, an Amherstburg native, won hockey’s most coveted prize as a right winger of the Los Angeles Kings in June.

"All of our young hockey players do pass through this corridor on their way to get ready for their individual ice time,” Collver said.

“We thought it was appropriate to put a reminder on that passageway, that dreams are possible,” he said. “Kevin Westgarth was able to do it through his hard work, commitment, sacrifice and dedication. It's a good message to send to the athletes as they get ready for their practices and games."

Town council votes on the naming proposal tonight.

Westgarth is scheduled to bring the Stanley Cup back to Amherstburg on Aug. 21.
