Windsor has its second confirmed human case of West Nile virus this year.
Dr. Allen Heimann, chief medical officer of the Windsor Essex County Health Unit confirmed that a 68-year-old man is in Hôtel-Dieu Grace hospital suffering from West Nile virus.
"Serious symptoms of West Nile virus can include headaches, loss of consciousness and, in some cases, neurological deficits, such as paralysis of some parts of the body," Heimann said.
The 68-year-old was admitted to hospital last week. He is currently unresponsive in serious condition in the ICU.
West Nile virus can be prevented by using mosquito spray, wearing long sleeves and pants in wooded areas and staying indoors around dawn and dusk.
