The 50 workers at a food plant in Wheatley will have to wait a little longer for a raise.
Their new contract with the owners of Presteve Foods won't be in place by Aug. 17, when their old one expires.
The owner told CAW Local 444, which represents the workers, he's not around for negotiations for the next three weeks.
Dino Chiodo, the local union president, delivered that news tow workers on the weekend.
Chiodo said once a new deal is in place, the workers will be compensated.:
"A lot of them understood where we were at. [The owner] has no problem with paying the retro [pay] back to Aug. 17, for whatever the gains are for those employees," Chiodo said. We also got some new thoughts and ideas from the workers in regards to some of the non-monetary things [to be negotiated]."
The upcoming auto talks are also adding to the delay in a new contract at Presteve Foods. The CAW is scheduled to soon begin bargaining new contracts with he Detroit Three in Canada.
