Traffic is up through the Detroit-Windsor Tunnel. So are toll revenues.
Traffic volumes increased almost six per cent for the first half of 2012, compared to the same time in 2011.
In June alone, volume jumped 5.3 percent over the same month last year. That's raking in almost $400,000 more in revenue.
Windsor Mayor Eddie Francis is also president of the tunnel corporation.
"We're making sure customers can get through the tube in a timely way. And I think customers have seen, with the additional booths that have been opened up, and the additional lanes that have added on the other side, that travelling through the tunnel is increasingly becoming easier," Francis said.
Major improvements to the Windsor side of the tunnel plaza begin in the fall and will last for the next couple years.
"Our priority right now is to ensure that we are, and that we remain, customer-centric; that we remain focused on the crossing experience as a pleasurable one for our customers," Francis said.
