Quadruplets born in Windsor, Ont., without the use of fertility drugs are doing fine.
The rare event happened at Windsor Regional Hospital on July 13. The hospital made the multiple birth public this week.
The quadruplets were delivered by caesarean section in the hospital's family birthing centre at its Met Campus.
The three boys and one girl weighed between 2 lbs., 10 oz. and 4 lbs., 1 oz. The four small infants are in good condition in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) undergoing close observation.
The quadruplets were born to Reema Elkafarneh. The boys have been named Ahmed, Mohammad and Mohanned, and the girl has been named Dana, according to hospital staff.
Dr. Godfrey Bacheyie, lead neonatologist in the NICU, was to address the media Friday.
The hospital has delivered 7,106 babies during the past two years. Five sets of triplets and 125 sets of twins were part of the total.
