Windsor's unemployment rate fell sharply in June, down to 9.5 per cent.

The city's unemployment rate has fallen more than one full percentage point in the first six months of the year.

Statistics Canada reported Friday that the city's unemployment rate was 9.5 per cent in June, down from 9.9 per cent in May. January's rate was 10.9 per cent.

Windsor still has Canada's highest unemployment rate among major cities.

People searching for even short-term work in Windsor are struggling.

Holly Beres uses Labour Ready, a temp agency on Tecumseh Road, to help her find work.

She waits at the office five days a week, and usually gets work only one of those days.

"There's not very many full time jobs right now," she Beres said. "Right now, it seems like there's more people looking for jobs than there is jobs."

Canada's unemployment rate now stands at 7.2 per cent.
