CAW to discuss merger with CEP in August

Ken Lewenza. (CAW)Ken Lewenza, national president of the CAW, said the union is moving closer to merging with the Communications Energy and Paperworkers.
The CAW will discuss the proposal at its constitutional and bargaining convention next month. The CEP is to hold a convention in October:
"So by the end of the calendar year, both organizations ought to have the blueprint completed and then I would think some time in 2013 we could actually bring both organizations together in a convention and elect a new administration team," Lewenza said.
The proposed merger would create a private-sector union of about 325,000 members across Canada.
