Ken Deane will remain the CEO of Hôtel-Dieu Grace Hospital.
After a series of controversies at the hospital, the province named Deane supervisor of Hôtel-Dieu Grace on Jan. 5, 2011.
Prior to Deane's takeover, there were issues with management, a public mistrust and staff members felt they didn't have the proper tools to get their jobs done to the best of their abilities.
"In the subsequent 18 months, he has brought stability and organizational renewal to the hospital, as well as improved transparency, accountability and respect among staff, physicians and volunteers," hospital advisory board chair Carol Derbyshire said in a media release.
Earlier this year, hundreds of people, including staff and patients, signed a petition calling for Deane to become the hospital's permanent CEO.
Deane was previously CEO from 2002 to 2004.
Bill Marra, president and executive director of the Hôtel-Dieu Grace Hospital Foundation, said Deane has been "instrumental" in restoring community confidence in the hospital and its supporters in a relatively short period of time.
"I want to thank the Hon. Deb Matthews, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care, for her foresight in choosing Ken Deane to supervise the hospital,” Marra said in the release. "Her support for Ken has allowed our volunteers, community supporters and ambassadors to speak once again with pride in HDGH and its commitment to health care."
Deane’s official start date as CEO is yet to be confirmed. Timing will be determined based on when the province officially rescinds his supervisory duties. That is expected to happen within the next few weeks.
