Amherstburg's police chief has been looking into the rash of cougar sightings.

Tim Berthiaume has talked with officials at the Ministry of Natural Resources. Berthiaume said ministry officials are skeptical it really is a cougar. But he has gleaned some advice from them.

Berthiaume said if there's ever a confrontation with a cougar, people should stand as tall as possible and wave their arms while slowly moving back.

Berthiaume said a cougar don't necessarily pose a threat.

Town councillor Carolyn Davies said it's good to get some information.

"I was actually being confronted with my own concern about my safety as I walked along this wonderful trail in the county and realize that, in fact, we should know that there is a plan and I'm glad to hear that there is," Davies said.
