Officials from the province and the Windsor-Essex Parkway project have made assurances that wetlands lost to make way for the road will be replaced.

They met with members of the Windsor Essex County Environment Committee and to replace the wetlands with a 3-to-1 compensation.

That means five hectares of lost wetlands will be replaced with 15.

"It's a good plan. You'd always like a little more generosity but it's about 15 hectares and they also got some buffers in there to compensate for the loss," said Coun. Alan Halberstadt, chairman of the environment committee.

The province will also develop a monitoring plan for the new wetlands.
